Our 30th Annual Spring Student Piano Recital in Natick MA for Children and Young Adults
This recital, featuring 11 elementary, intermediate and advanced piano students was held on June 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Hartford Street Presbyterian Church in Natick, MA. Many friends and family members were in attendance. This was the 30th annual spring recital by students of the Ed Mascari Piano Studio!
Performing at this Natick MA children and young adults recital were students, Hunter Leonard, Jeffrey Tavares, Talia Salls, Matthew Tavares, Ben Carr, Andrew Salls, Arden Knapp, Zachary Knapp, Skylar Schmid, Quentin Putnam and Krishna Canning. Natick faculty member Sean Yoshioka and Mr. Mascari also performed. Performances consisted of classical, jazz and popular selections as well a duets and even a vocal.
The recital started off on a strong note with a performance by Hunter Leonard Eight Days a Week by Lennon & McCartney and the infectious Linus and Lucy by Guaraldi. Hunter Leonard, an 8th grader and Wayland Middle School, also plays the trumpet in his school concert and jazz bands. He has been taking piano lessons at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio for 4 years.
Jeffrey Tavares, a 7-year-old first grader at the Memorial School in Natick MA, was up next, performing the American classics, Yankee Doodle and Muffin Man. Jeffrey Tavares has been taking piano lessons for only 5 weeks. He studies with Natick faculty member Sean Yoshioka.
Kennedy Middle School sixth grader Ben Carr was next, playing the popular Ode to Joy by Beethoven. Ben has also only been taking lessons a short time, just a little over 3 months with Sean Yoshioka. Andrew Salls, a fifth grader at the Hemmingway Elementary School in Framingham gave a lively performance of Indian Campfire by Eckstein and In Hall of Mt King by Grieg.
With seven years study at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio, Skylar Schmid, is no stranger to these recitals. This year Skylar performed Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams by Barris and Eight Days a Week by Lennon/McCartney. Skyler is also a highly accomplished dancer having won a scholarship in 2012 at "The Pulse On Tour" Boston.
Quentin Putnam is also another long time Ed Mascari Piano Studio student, taking lessons at our Natick MA location for 8 years. Quentin performed Night Train by Forrest and Body & Soul by Green. He is another multi instrumentalist, playing the trumpet in the Natick High Concert and Jazz bands. Read more about Quentin on our Student Showcase page.
With a total of 9 years study at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio Krishna Canning brought the student performances to a rousing, jazzy finish with his rendition of Boplicity by Miles Davis/Gil Evans and Lush Life by Strayhorn. Another multi instrumentalist Krishna plays the guitar and bass. He also plays the piano for the Wellesley High school Jazz Band. Krishna is also featured on our Student Showcase page.
Natick faculty member Sean Yoshioka delighted the audience with a performance of his own arrangement of some music from the video game Corridors of Time by Yasunori Mitsuda. Then, Ed Mascari brought the proceedings to a wonderful jazzy close with his rendition of Georgia on My Mind by Hoagy Carmichael.
Participants and audience alike then joined together for refreshments and lively conversation. Another successful Ed Mascari Piano Studio recital in Natick MA, our 30th!
