Our Annual Spring Student Piano Recital in Hudson MA for Children and Adults
This afternoon recital was held on June 23 2013. This marked our 5th piano recital for our Hudson MA Piano Studio students.This year's recital was again held at the First United Methodist Church of Hudson. Right down the street from our Hudson MA Piano Studio.
The recital featured many students from the Hudson MA Piano Studio. These are students of our Hudson location instructors including Robin Cho, Erika Stalcup and Jean Breidenbach. Our enthusiastic Hudson, MA audience enjoyed a variety of excellent performances by Hanna Georgiev, Elijah Rodrigues, Ian Winiarski, Santoshi Senapathi, Elizabeth Guerriero, Samantha Gamber, Olivia Deckers, Emmanuelle De Oliveira, Alessandro Dimeo, Brieanna Allen, Garet Mildish, George Sachs-Walor, Megan Scott, Rex Provost, Anna Caissie, Bobbie Ewels and Charles Santana.
The afternoon got off to a great start with Hanna Georgiev's performance of the popular Ode to Joy by Beethoven followed by Grandfather's Clock by Work. Hanna is in the 2nd grade at the Farley School in Hudson MA. Elijah Rodrigues, a Kindergarten student at Hebert School in Hudson was next with his rendition of The Rainbow by Fletcher, as a duet with his teacher Jean Breidenbach.
Ian Winiarski, a 3rd grader at Florence Sawyer Elementary School in Bolton was next playing Snake Dance and the Theme from The Flintstones. Eight year old Ian has been taking piano lessons for 4 years. More duets followed, this time with Santoshi Senapathi performing Aura Lee and Taps with her teacher Erika Stalcup. Santoshi is an adult piano student from Shrewsbury MA who has been playing for just one year.
Continuing with duet performances, 10-year-old Elizabeth Guerriero, a student at St. Bernadette's School in Northborough MA performed a Faber arrangement of Spring from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Elizabeth's musical experience includes a singing role in a school play and 2 years of piano lessons.
Samantha Gamber, a 4th grade at Richer School in Marlborough MA was next performing two duets, Theme No. 10 by Beyer and Morning Mood by Grieg, both with her teacher Erika Stalcup. Samantha is a multi-instrumentalist who plays recorder and flute in addition to the piano. She also sings in her school chorus and church choir.
A 4th grader at the Whitcomb School in Marlboro MA 10 year old Olivia Deckers performed Shepherd's Hey and Tune Twisters by Eckstein. Although she has been playing the piano for only 2 years Olivia demonstrated an extraordinary sense of touch and technique in her performance. Emmanuelle De Oliveira, in 3rd grade at the Farley elementary school in Hudson MA was next performing an arrangement of the piano classic Fur Elise by Beethoven followed St. Anthony Chorale by Haydn.
Another student at the Farley School in Hudson MA, 5th grader Alessandro DeMeo was next with the Wedding March by Mendelssohn and her rendition of Spring from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Alessandro has taken flute lessons and sang in Hudson Arts Alliance's Rivers Edge Youth Chorus.
Brieanna Allen, was next with Sonata Pathetique by Beethoven and the traditional Skip to My Lou. Brieanna, in 4th grade at St. Bernadette school in Northborough MA, has been a student at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio for 3 years and also plays the recorder.
Garet Mildish, in 7th grade at the JFK Middle School in Hudson MA, chose to perform the theme from the movie Chariots of Fire by Vangelis. Garet played clarinet and participated in the chorus at JFK and has been a student at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio for 2 years.
A solo piano rendition of Revolution by Lennon & McCartney followed, performed by 10-year-old George Sachs-Walor, a 5th grader at the Forest Ave. Elementary in Hudson MA. George is another multi-instrumentalist who plays the trombone. He took piano lessons at the Rivers School for 3 years and has been taking lessons at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio in Hudson MA for the past 3 years.
Turning to musical theatre, Megan Scott, a 6th grader at the AMSA charter school in Marlborough MA, performed Maria and Edelweiss, both by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Megan had taken piano lessons for 4 years before starting at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio a year ago.
Rex Provost, a Junior at the Wayland High School in Wayland MA, performed the challenging Monk's Dream by Thelonious Monk. Rex is another multi-instrumentalist who plays alto sax and bassoon. He's also participated in the Wayland HS Jazz Project (a small jazz ensemble in Wayland) for the past 3 years.
It Could Happen to You by Van Heusen and My Heart Will Go On by Horner were next, both performed by 16 year old Anna Caissie a 10th grader at Lowell Catholic High School in Lowell MA. Anna took piano lessons for 2 years before starting at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio 5 years ago with Robin Cho.
Adult piano student Bobbie Ewels was next with a very heartfelt performance of Serenade by Schubert . Bobbie is from Hudson MA and has sung in the Rivers Edge Choral as well as her own church choir. She had piano lessons as a child and returned to the piano, starting at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio 2 years ago.
Rounding out the student performances was a duet with Charles Santana on piano accompanied by his teacher Erika Stalcup on the flute, performing a special arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner. Charles is a 7th grader at the Whitcomb Middle School in Marlborough MA. He also plays in his school jazz band and sings in school chorus.
The audience was then treated to performances by several members of the Ed Mascari Piano Studio faculty. Jean Breidenbach performed the Rondo movement from the Horn Concerto No. 4 in C Major by Mozart and Robin Cho performed the familiar Gymnopedie No. 1 by Satie. The recital was brought to an end with a beautiful duet performance of Tennessee Waltz with Ed Mascari on piano and Erika Stalcup on the flute.
The Hudson, MA piano recital was followed by a reception in downstairs in the church where students and families met, talked and munched along with the Ed and the Hudson MA piano studio faculty members.
